Hanging Wall Art – Quick Guide

  • Hang wall art above the fireplace in the right size1. A fireplace is always the focal point of a room.
  • Display a painting in that space on the mantle to tell your own design story.
  • Make the art pool about the same size as the fireplace opening.
  • Use one large piece or several small pieces that appear as a single unit. Get in touch for Painters in Ann Arbor

Remember that you are decorating a wall

Choose smaller pieces for narrow walls and larger canvas wall art pieces for large walls.

For small spaces:
An even number of closely packed pieces in a small area, like a stair landing, is perfect and gives a window effect. Light colors enhance this effect.

For large spaces:
An even number of closely grouped pieces works great to balance out a large space or tall wall. Note that large spaces can handle slightly larger spaces than small spaces.

Put the pictures on a wall before nailing the hammer

  • Place everything on a table or on the floor
  • Move the pieces around until you have an arrangement you like.
  • Lay out the pieces on a large sheet of kraft paper or wrapping paper, and then trace around each piece.
  • Mark the hanging spots from the back of the art on the kraft paper.
  • Then stick the paper to the wall and hammer in the nails.
  • Remove the paper and voila!
